Allgemein bezeichnet man lost places als Orte, die dem Kontext ihrer ursprünglichen Bestimmung nach verloren gegangen sind, zumindest aber in Vergessenheit geraten sind, denn sie wurden eben nicht als Spektakel entworfen, um Besucherströme auszulösen.

Und doch zeigen sie sich spektakulär, meist geheimnisvoll, und immer im Glanz ihrer vergehenden Schönheit. Der besondere Reiz erschließt sich dem Betrachter vollends, wenn er auch um die Historie dieser Orte weiß.

In general, lostplaces are called places that have been lost to the context of their original destiny, but at least have fallen into oblivion since they were not designed as a spectacle to trigger visitors' streams.

And yet they show themselves spectacular, mostly mysterious, and always in the splendor of their perishing beauty. The special charm is revealed to the viewer when he also knows the history of these places.

Ein wahres Juwel - der zweite Besuch (2017)

Unglaublich, mir wird tatsächlich als einzigem Urbexer noch einmal die Tür für ein Shooting geöffnet. Noch immer unberührt ist das Ende mittlerweile beschlossene Sache. Wieviel behutsamer ich jetzt mit den Motiven umgehe, sie dokumentiere und so für die Nachwelt zu erhalten, merke ich erst bei der abschliessenden Bearbeitung.

Unbelievable, I will actually be the only urbexer once again opened the door for a shooting. The end is still unaffected. How much more gently I now deal with the motifs, document them and so receive them for posterity, I only notice when the final editing.

Horchen auf Teufel komm raus (2016)

Die Field Station auf dem Berliner Teufelsberg diente den westlichen Allierten in der Zeit des kalten Krieges Spionagezwecken. 1989 war Schluß damit, statt dessen sollten hier nur Wohn- und Hotelanlagen errichtet werden. 2005 kippte der Senat jedoch alle Bauvorhaben - der Teufelsberg bleibt grün - abgesehen von diesen Reststrukturen.

The Field Station on the Teufelsberg (devils peak) in Berlin served the western allies in the time of the cold war espionage purposes. In 1989 it was concluded that only residential and hotel facilities should be set up instead. In 2005, however, the Senate tipped all construction projects - the Teufelsberg remains green - apart from these residual structures.

1998 floß der letzte Stahl im Hochofenwerk Phoenix-West. Neben einigen als Denkmal ausgewiesenen Bauten (u.a. Hochofen und Gasometer) entwickelt sich nun ein neues Gewerbegebiet nebst Grünflächen.

In 1998, the last steel in the Phoenix West blast furnace flowed. In addition to a number of monuments (including blast furnace and gasometer), a new industrial park and green areas are now being developed.

Altes Klärwerk (2015)

Seit Jahren fristet es unberührt sein Dasein, doch einmal im Inneren erfasst den Betrachter Ehrfurcht vor der kathedralenartigen Stimmung. Das rostige Pumpengestänge baut sich zum altarähnlichen Gebilde auf.

For years it has been immortal, but once inside, the viewer feels awe of the cathedral-like mood. The rusty pump rod builds up to the altar-like structure.

Verlassener Freizeitpark (2015)

Mitten in der Großstadt liegt er da. Seit Jahren fuhr keine Bahn mehr, drehte sich auch das Riesenrad nicht. Seine Zukunft fraglich.

Großer Rangierbahnhof (2014/2015)

Seine besten Zeiten hat er sicherlich hinter sich und trotzdem ist man versucht, auf den nächsten Zug zu warten. Die große Umladehalle mit ihrer immer noch faszinierenden Dachkonstruktion aus Holz, Glas und Eisenträgern vermittelt uns in einigen Teilbereichen den Eindruck eines riesigen Gewächshauses. Und über die weitere Nutzung kann man nur spekulieren.

His best times he certainly has behind him and yet one is tempted to wait for the next train. The large reloading hall with its still fascinating roof construction made of wood, glass and ice carriers gives us the impression of a gigantic greenhouse in some areas. And you can only speculate about the further use.

Zugegeben, der Ort ist noch nicht komplett aufgegeben. Trotzdem befindet sich der aktive Betrieb auf dem Rückzug und die alten Anlagen werden langsam aber sicher von der Natur zurück erobert.

Tatort Kasachstan/Deutschland. Geldwäsche und dubioser Finanzgeschäfte, deren Entdeckung und dem Zugriff der Staatsanwaltschaft ist dieser lost place zu verdanken. Praktisch über Nacht wurde die Fabrik geschlossen, die Schreibtische noch mit unbearbeiteten Akten befüllt. Gespenstisch die Szenerie, spannend der Kriminalfall hinter den Bildern.

Tatort Kazakhstan / Germany. Money laundering and dubious financial transactions, their discovery and the access of the prosecutor's office is due to this lost place. Practically overnight, the factory was closed, the desks still filled with unprocessed files. Spooky the scenery, exciting the criminal case behind the pictures.

Rheinblick (2014/2015)

Jahrzehntelang bewegte sich nichts mehr, dem Verfall preisgegeben in bester Rheinblicklage. Nun endlich (?) wird dieses herrliche Ensemble einer neuen Bebauung und Nutzung weichen (müssen).
